Energy Deregulation: How it Works |
|
Energy Deregulation: How it Works Before deregulation, one company—the monopoly incumbent provider—provided all aspects of your electric service: generation/production, delivery, and energy retail. They also billed the customer and provided customer support. After deregulation, these components are separated. Electricity is now generated in competing power plants and stored in a network called“The Grid.” The Grid is managed by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT. ERCOT oversees the transmission of electricity from the power plants to the population centers. Now, when electricity reaches a city, its delivery across wires to your home or business is handled by a single operator. This regulated transmission and delivery provider (Oncor, Centerpoint, Direct Energy or Texas New Mexico Power) maintains all power lines and responds to any and all outages. Now, in deregulated areas of Texas, the marketing of electricity, including billing and customer service, is handled by Retail Electric Providers, or “REPs.” Ambit Energy is a Retail Electric Provider in Texas. So, why is electricity such a great product and why would a customer choose Ambit Energy? For more information E-Mail: steven@stevenwilson.com Website: http://www.excitenet.com
